Guyanese fisherman disappears in waters off Cayenne

A GUYANESE fisherman plying his trade in the waters off Cayenne, French Guiana, reportedly fell overboard on Saturday, March 23, and is presumed drowned. But one week later, his body is yet to be recovered from the water.
The missing man, whose name was given as ‘Fat Boy’ Budhram, in his late 40s, was said to have been in the company of about four others when misfortune struck. The men claimed they saw him go down in the water, but have since been unable to trace his body.
Speaking with the Sunday Chronicle, Budhram’s niece, Sheleeze of Bell West,

West Bank Demerara, said her uncle has been residing in Suriname for several years now, and it is not unusual for the men to go over to Cayenne to fish. Sheleeze said that, on Good Friday, an aunt called home from Suriname to say that ‘Fat Boy’ had fallen overboard on March 23 and had since not been spotted.
Budhram’s estranged wife and two sons — Ravi and Prakash Budhram — live in Guyana. His deeply distraught relatives are in a state of anxiety, especially since the body had not been recovered after three days.  They said even though Fat Boy was a good swimmer, the waters in Cayenne would be rough at this time, severely reducing his chances of survival. They are hoping and praying that the body would be found, so that he could be given a decent burial.
Sheleeze said the family has learnt that the police in Cayenne, with cooperation from the captain of the boat, are carrying out a search for the missing man.
