The driver of the minibus was taken into police custody.
The accident has come on the fifth day of the Easter school holidays and the second day of the National Grade Six Assessment Examinations.
Meanwhile, senior citizens at Mabaruma are continuing to complain about the speeding of minibuses on the roadway and the attendant noise nuisance. “It’s terrible, speed and noise fuh so; music fuh so, and not just music, but ugly music!” one irate resident lamented.
Residents repeatedly have warned that the loud noises emanating from minibuses, while affecting seniors at present, will in time have devastating consequences on the hearing of the minibus operatives and passengers as well.
“Unless something is done soon about the minibus noise nuisance plaguing us, we will soon have a community of people who are either deaf, or with hearing problems,” residents told the Guyana Chronicle.
