Bai Shan Lin reports on forestry sector operations : …in company of China Development Bank

AMIDST plans to establish an exhibition centre at Providence, construct a wood processing plant in Region 10 and a proposed multipurpose park, Bai Shan Lin Forest Development Inc. yesterday reported to President Donald Ramotar on its cooperation with China Development Bank in the forestry sector. The company’s President Chu Wenzhe, in the company of a team that included China Development Bank officials met President Ramotar for talks at his office, along with Minister of Housing Irfaan Ali.
The Chinese company has been in Guyana for the past eight years, with operations through the Bai Shan Lin Forest Development Inc., Haimorakabra Logging, Karlam South America Timbers, Wood Associated Industries, Kwebanna Wood Productions, Sherwood Forests, Bai Shan Lin Housing, Construction, Mining development Inc., and Bai Shan Lin Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Inc.
Earlier this year, the company embarked on a job recruitment exercise as it sought labour at its wood processing and export company, and attracted interests far in excess of initial expectations.
The recruitment drive came amidst plans for a proposed wood economic and trade park that will promote production of various kinds of wood products and brands to boost the development of the local economy.
Industries for ship building, woodworking, machinery, processing and manufacturing, food and aquatic processing, mining, a school and hospital are all included in the park.
Construction of an international mall and an exhibition centre at Providence to showcase finished products manufactured at the Bai Shan Lin plant in Linden and other entrepreneurship ventures are also on the cards.
Yesterday’s meeting with President Ramotar is one of several that the company’s executives have been engaging in with the government. According to its President Chu Wenzhe, plans are progressing. (GINA)
