Court told… : Policeman assaults Chinese national accusing him of littering

A POLICEMAN appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson yesterday, charged with assaulting a Chinese national whom he accused of littering his surroundings. Dexter Ross, of Lot 81 St. Stephen Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that, last December 18, 2012, he unlawfully assaulted Hu Yu Nan to cause him actual bodily harm.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, said, that day, the defendant confronted the virtual complainant, accusing him of having littered his environment and struck him with handcuffs, admonishing him not to litter.
Defence Counsel Paul Fung-a-Fat, requesting reasonable bail, said Ross saw the defendant committing the act and warned him to desist.
The lawyer claimed it was the virtual complainant who first attacked the defendant in Chinese moves and the latter restrained him.
Ross was ordered to post $5,000 surety until May 6.
