YouTube:The Good, the Bad and the Viral

AFTER the first launch of YouTube, the public, simply by word of mouth, heard about this great site, and started joining in. This was amazing, in the sense that very little was ever spent on marketing. This means the product spoke for itself! YouTube is an Online public communications site, which allows registered users to upload just about anything you want on it. You can also watch just about anything on YouTube. There are some great videos out there on YouTube that are very interesting and entertaining, and will never be seen anywhere else.
YouTube was designed and then released in 2005 in San Bruno, California, by three previous employees of the PayPal Online payment service. It uses Adobe Flash Video and HTML5 technology. YouTube had millions of users in its first year.
Why should you use it? Well, this is easy. No matter what kind of video you want to watch or post, you can do it all on YouTube. There is a wide variety of videos out there. There are learning videos, entertainment, comedy, action, music, marketing and much more.
If you have a business, YouTube is a great tool for getting your product out there, for little cost. If you are creating music, this is the way to reach the public. You can put your video out there, and at next to no cost. After the video is created, you can get it Online and see what the public thinks about it. You will also be able to start a string of your music, so that when you put a new song out there, the people who are interested in your music can follow.
If you just want to watch the videos that are on YouTube, all you need to do is go to the site and watch them. However, registering for the videos is easy and fun. All you need do is put in a little information, and you are good to go.
In November 2006, YouTube was bought by Google for US$1.65 billion, and now operates as a subsidiary of Google.
Those of us that are familiar with YouTube are able to understand how to use it, and how you can use the right type of terms when searching for videos. However, there are a lot of people that aren’t really sure how to use the site, or what it is all about, for that matter. To help you understand the video-sharing site a little better, here are some pros and cons of YouTube.
The good things about YouTube
One of the things that really makes YouTube great is that it’s free. When it was launched, it was the only video-sharing site of its kind, and it is still the most popular. Once the video is on the site, it will be available for anyone to view, which can mean a lot of money in advertising for you, if you get people all over the world watching your video.
As long as you are able to promote the right type of video, you will be able to get the right numbers you need for your business. You can create a series of educational videos, which can also aid in boosting your Online presence and building your reputation. YouTube has so many different types of videos that you can actually pull up videos of a historical nature, or find a TV Special that aired once when you were a kid. It’s a great way to find cool videos that may be interesting to you.

The not-so-good things
YouTube is filled with a lot of videos, and not all of them may be things you want to watch. There are a lot of videos that are filled with spam (Send the same message indiscriminately to a large numbers of recipients on the Internet). If you create a video, and you don’t follow the YouTube requirements, it will be shrunk to fit the specifications, and this can really hurt the overall quality of your video. To continue getting hits, the video will need to be optimized as well, and this can be a very frustrating and time-consuming process to deal with.
Once you make a video, you are sharing it with the entire world, which means everyone will know who you are, and they can gain access to information that you really didn’t want to share. Your YouTube videos that you created for your family may end up becoming a viral sensation; something that you may not want.
Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users can upload an unlimited number of videos. Videos considered potentially offensive are available only to registered users at least 18 years old.
Google Inc’s YouTube said 1 billion unique users were now visiting the video-sharing website every month, or nearly one out of every two people on the Internet.
If YouTube were a country, it would be the third largest in the world after China and India.
The popularity of music videos, such as South Korean singer Psy’s “Gangnam Style” has contributed to an explosion in viewership on YouTube. That video alone has so far clocked up over 1.46 billion views in total.
The fast-growing video site, which had about 800 million unique monthly users a year ago, now represents one of Google’s key opportunities to generate new sources of revenue outside of its traditional Internet search advertising business.

Every cool new community feature on YouTube involves a certain level of trust. YouTube is not for pornography or sexually explicit content. Don’t post videos showing bad stuff, like animal abuse, drug abuse, under-age drinking and smoking. If your video shows someone being physically hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don’t post it. Don’t post gross-out videos of accidents, dead bodies, or similar things intended to shock or disgust. Do the right thing! Log on to www.youtube.com to get going.
Please regard these rules seriously, and take them to heart. Don’t try to look for loopholes, or try to push your way around the guidelines; just understand them and try to respect the spirit in which they were created. If you are going to use YouTube, let it be constructive and not destructive. Be a role model!
