The feature address will be delivered by Minister of Labour, Human Services and Social Security, Jennifer Webster.
Through GWLI’s training programmes, the ministry has been able to work towards fulfilling its mandate of reducing poverty among underprivileged and single parent women in Guyana.
At the same time, it has managed to fulfill its international mandate in keeping with the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Millennium Development Goals [MDGs], among others.
In 2005, the institute began decentralising its training programmes with the assistance of the regional administrations and regional women’s affairs committees.
This decision was taken to ensure that rural and hinterland women have equal access to training programmes offered, and this meant allowing them to develop their capacity for economic empowerment, poverty reduction and sustainable development, while also meeting family commitments.
During 2012, the institute implemented training programmes for 73 women through its resident training programmes, along with an outreach training programme in Region 3.
