FIRST Lady, Mrs. Deolatchmee Ramotar was the first donor in the successful Blood Drive initiative mounted by the Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO), the youth arm of the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP), on Main Street, Georgetown on Friday last. Mrs. Ramotar reportedly praised the initiative as being “very important in helping to save lives” and urged that more Guyanese should get over their initial fear of donating and visit the National Blood Transfusion Service in the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) compound to make their contribution.
Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran was also on hand to witness the proceedings earlier in the day and commended the PYO for a job well done along with the staff of the Blood Bank who were very professional during the entire process.
Donations were also made by members of several PYO groups and passersby who stopped and were generous enough to participate.
The blood drive is part of the observation of the annual commemoration of the life and work of late PPP and Guyanese leaders, Dr. Cheddi Jagan and Mrs. Janet Jagan.
