THE People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has announced that its 30th Congress will be held at the JC Chandisingh School, Port Mourant, Berbice, from August 2 and will run until August 4.
The announcement was made this past week by Minister of Home Affairs and Central Executive Member of the party, Clement Rohee, who also remarked that this is the first party congress to be held since its inception in 1950 without any of the two founder members, the late Jagans.
Wife of the late Dr. Cheddi Jagan and former Executive President Janet Jagan was present at the party’s last congress held at the Diamond Secondary School.
“Regrettably they are no longer with us…this is the first time holding congress in their absence,” remarked Rohee.
Rohee was at the time briefing media operatives while at the party’s headquarters, Freedom House, on Friday last and he said that they have already begun mobilizing resources.
All of the party groups have been officially informed and placed on alert, according to Rohee.
He said that delegates from around the country are expected to congregate at the location along with members of the party’s overseas chapters.
According to Rohee, the party’s congress will also see participation from its youth and women’s arms, namely the Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO) and the Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO).
Affiliate party groups will also be represented, said Rohee, and he singled out the Guyana Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU) and the Rice Producers Association.
