A MAN charged with the theft of oranges and eddoes was refused bail yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Sherwin Benjamin (no address given) pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that, on March 10, at East La Penitence Market, in Georgetown, he stole a quantity of eddoes and oranges, priced at $12,000, from Baburam Doodnauth.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, objected to pre-trial freedom for the defendant, on the ground that he has no fixed place of abode and the objection was upheld.
The case will be called, again, on March 19.
