MAGISTRATE Allan Wilson yesterday sentenced Hoyte McLean to 18 months’ imprisonment for stealing five music discs valued at $1,000.
The convict (no address given) pleaded guilty to having, on March 10, in Hadfield Street, Georgetown, stolen the property of Stephen Grant.
Police Corporal Seon Blackman, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was the driver of mini-bus BLL 665 when a traffic rank stopped him and asked that he produce his documents. Grant was in the process of complying with the request when Mc Lean, who was passing in the area at the time, took the opportunity to enter the vehicle and steal the articles.
He was apprehended ‘red handed’ with the booty by the virtual complainant, who also took him to the Brickdam Police Station in the city.
The Prosecutor said that while the convict has no previous convictions, he is a character well known to the police.
Mc Lean declared he did not want to waste the court’s time, and begged for leniency. The magistrate, however, told him that he must reflect, while in jail, whether it is worthwhile to steal something worth $1,000 and be imprisoned for 18 months.
