Police seeks help as…Mystery girl ‘appears’ at woman’s home

Police ranks at the Mahaica Police Station are desperately seeking the assistance of the general public in identifying a young lady who they believed wondered off.
The police are of the view that the girl was being tormented by some supernatural force since her behavior yesterday while in police custody were very far from that of a normal human being.

When the Guyana Chronicle visited the Mahaica Police Station at dust yesterday the girl had moments before completed a prayer session with a pastor and was having a meal.

QUOTE: ‘I want to go back to the water. Emily please help me…’

The police explained that a woman telephoned the station to say that there was a female in front of her residence at Supply Mahaica who seemed not to know anything of herself. The woman informed the police that she has been trying to get information out of the girl but she was not responding.
It was reported that after realizing that it was getting nowhere the woman telephoned a taxi and paid for the girl’s ride down to the police station where she was taken into custody.
The girl who was clad in a blue jeans and stripe green jersey and black slippers appeared to be a big breed around the age of 16 or 17. She also appeared to be mixed with at least three races.
The police confirmed that the girl had no visible signs of marks of violence of evidence to suggest that she was abused.
However while the police tried their best to be very accommodating and extremely polite the young lady who seemed very trouble there was a very huge concern.
The girl who said very little when questioned by the police only began speaking after her prayer session with the pastor. That however did not do much since she continued to speak without identifying herself.
The Guyana Chronicle was informed by the police at the station that the young lady seemed to have an obsession with “water” and continuously requested to be sent to the water.
It was reported that when the girl was asked where she came from she said that she came from the water and wanted to go back to the water. At one point she was given water to drink and when she began drinking the water she ceased doing so as she turned to the police and informed them that the water was not tasting good and that she needed a little salt to pu in the water.
She then demanded that the police present her with a piece of lime to go with the water while telling the police that she prefers to drink salt water. The girl during her prayer session was seen “wuking up like a worm” one police rank was quoted as saying.
There were many reasons proffered as to what may be causing the young lady to be behaving the way she did.
Among those were that she might be Demon possessed, might be a mermaid might have been the victim of some form of obeah among other things.
The young lady was later taken to the Cove and John Police Station where the police had “hell oh Hell” top get her into a cell.
The young lady sat comfortably all the way from the Mahaica Police Station to the Cove and John Police Station, however when the time reached for her to venture into the station she began to cry. At the point where she was about to be placed into a cell, the young lady appeared to have taken on the strength of a warrior princess and had to be wrestled to the ground by two male policemen accompanied by a female officer.
The two male officers were summoned to assist the female rank after she tried in vain along with the help of another female rank initially to place the child into the cell.
The child continued to rebel and began screaming to the top of her voice at levels which can be heard almost half mile away as she beg ranks with the word “NO”.
Suddenly the young lady who mentioned not one name since she was taken into custody at approximately 14 hrs yesterday finally called out for someone or something.
To the top of her voice again the teen kept screaming for “Emily” “Emily help me” Emily help me please”. At that point ranks again asked the girl to the tell them where she was from and that would prevent her from being placed into the cell but she again refused to say.
She then requested some water and when she was given that it took her less than ten seconds to completely empty a full bottle which seal was not broken as yet. She then proceeded to split the bottle with her hands.
Before this publication left the police station a man who was in custody informed the police that the girl “looks knowing” he told the police that he thinks that he can remember seeing the young lady at a Bar in Bee Hive on the East Coast of Demerara. That village is located almost ten miles from the area the child was found wondering.
The police are asking that anyone who may have the identity of the teen and may have contact with her relatives to call the Mahaica Police Station on telephone number 228 2422.
One female police rank explained that she feels deeply for the girl and decided to contact the media to assist in putting the girl’s photo in the public domain so that she can be reunited with her family. The rank stressed that while it was not the intention to place the young lady in a station cell but the move was taken to protect her from what the police described as “advantage being taken of her”.
