President & COO of Guyana Goldfields Inc. resigns : – Aurora Gold Project timeline unaffected

CANADIAN mining company, Guyana Goldfields Inc. (GGI Inc.), operating at Aurora, Cuyuni, Region 7 (Cuyuni/Mazaruni), recently announced the resignation of its President & Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr. Marcel F. De Guire effective July 15, 2013. De Guire was said to be resigning for personal reasons but remains available to assist the company in advancing the development of the Aurora Gold Project.
Meanwhile, the company said its Aurora Gold Project timeline remains unaffected and continues to advance on track.
“The on-and-off-site early works construction activities also remain on schedule on such items as road works, camp construction, Buckhall Port Development, etc. Detailed engineering for early works including tailings dam and other critical path earthworks will be awarded imminently. We continue to have discussions with project lenders for the remaining capital requirement of the project,” a GGI release stated.
Outgoing President and COO, DeGuire stated, “I continue to support the company and the development of the Aurora Gold Project and wish GGI success in all its growth moving forward. I have no doubt that Aurora will be a highly profitable operation in addition to showing excellent expansion potential beyond the current mine plan.”
The company will immediately begin a search for a new President & COO, the release said.
Guyana Goldfields earlier this year signalled its intentions to start commercial operations at Aurora in early 2015 and will be looking to plunge up to US$205M in the initial startup, a reduction from the more than US$500M it originally wanted to invest.
The new mine plan calls for production of 3.29 million ounces of gold over an initial 17-year mine life at an operating cash cost of US$527 an ounce. Average annual gold production over the life of the mine is expected to amount to 194,000 ounces and 231,000 ounces a year over the first 10 years, the company disclosed. (Clifford Stanley)
