OTIS Peters appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday, charged with burglary at the home of Justice Brassington Reynolds. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge that he broke and entered the dwelling house of the judge on March 4 and stole one complete window frame valued $25,000.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail, stating that the offence attracts a high penalty and, if pre-trial freedom is granted, the defendant will not return for trial.
The defendant told the Court that he, usually, picks up scrap metal and was walking on the road when he saw a window frame in front of a yard and picked it up.
Peters said some police officers held on to him and claimed that he broke into the house but he maintained he did not.
The case will be called, again, on March 11.
