ZAMAN Deen, 47, of Lot 247 Garnett Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was refused bail yesterday on a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm Before Magistrate Judy Latchman, he pleaded not guilty to having, on March 3, unlawfully and maliciously inflicted the harm on Mahendra Ramsingh.
Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt, prosecuting, successfully objected to pre-trial freedom for the defendant, stating that he went to the virtual complainant’s home and attacked him.
As a result, Ramsingh suffered several chops about his body.
Defence Counsel Paul Fung-a-Fat alleged that the virtual complainant stole a bicycle belonging to the defendant and they were involved in a fight during which Ramsingh was wounded with a knife.
Ramsingh’s mother was present in court and asked to speak on his behalf, explaining that he has a brain injury and cannot speak for himself.
The woman said she was at home when the defendant barged in and chopped her son, claiming that he stole his bicycle and she advised Deen to make a report to police instead.
Deen has to be back in court on March 11. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
