KATHERINA Roshana, the reigning Miss India Guyana 2013, during a recent visit to the Bush Lot Secondary School in Berbice, presented a special trophy to Kenon Joseph as ‘Most Rounded Student’ of the school.
Gifting this trophy to the student and school was her personal gesture to encourage excellence. She said that while brilliance is an important component of knowledge, the most valuable student is not one with elite brains only, but one with brilliance, one involved in voluntary work, the same involved in sportsmanship, the one who is most courteous, exhibiting extraordinary citizenship, and being an inspiration to the students and his or her community.
She encouraged the students to display respect to parents and the community, and to remember that bad company spoils useful habits.
The students were addressed about the Power of Positive Thinking, and how to be the best they can be, and that they can be anything they want to be, good or bad, they have that power, but they were advised to always strive for the good, while being humble and caring. They were encouraged to walk the old or the visually impaired across the street. Even treat animals with kindness, and remember that the environment is everyone’s business, to keep it clean and respect it. It produces all the wants of humanity.
They were addressed to remember to be charitable, that even a smile could be charitable; to visit the hospitals and talk to the sick; to volunteer in old folks’ homes, as well as The Red Cross and the Salvation Army. The reigning beauty queen told the students that such volunteerism helps to make one a better human being, and from that the good and sweet things of the Universe will descend upon them bountifully.
Katherina Roshana, Miss India Guyana presented this trophy even before her reign began, and involved in other humane gestures, as such is her personality and her ambition: ‘To Serve, to Inspire’.
Katherina is prepared to work with any positive institutions to develop youths, and inspire them and motivate them. She pledged to serve even after her reign ends, and to give all support to whoever replaces her in 2014, and regardless of where she is and what she is doing, she will be there to crown the new Queen in 2014, and to applaud her on and bless her reign. This is how Queens should be, always positive, and realistic.
