JUSTICE Navindra Singh, who was conducting a voire dire to determine admissibility of an alleged confession statement in the Triumph murder trial, has ruled that a caution statement made to the police by Lloyd Rampersaud, called Lloydie, was obtained freely and voluntarily.
The judge has thus directed that the prosecution was entitled to utilize the statement which was objected to by defence counsel, Euclin Gomes.
The Rampersaud brothers – Lloyd, called Lloydie, and Roy or Roy Patrick, called Royee — are indicted with having murdered Munilall Mangru, called ‘Boy’, in the county of Demerara sometime between February 22 and 24, 2009. Allegedly beaten to death, ‘Boy’ was found in the mud under the Triumph access bridge on the East Coast of Demerara.
According to the caution statement which the accused Lloydie is said to have given to the police, ‘Boy’ was said to be a person who had “plenty money”, and he was accordingly beaten and robbed of approximately $50,000. The caution statement inferred that the money was divided, and a former accused, who was allegedly freed by the DPP, is said to have given ‘Boy’ the first blow and had benefited to over $25,000 of the (booty) $50,000 taken from ‘Boy’.
Mrs. Konyo Thompson is associated with Ms. Dhanika Singh in prosecuting the matter. Mr. Euclin Gomes is defending.
The hearing is continuing.
