TUSCHEN, on the East Bank Essequibo, will come alive tonight when the community hosts the Slingerz Football Club (FC)-organised Stag Beer Mashramani Knock-out tournament with another double-header. Seawall United and Stewartville will collide in the night’s opening fixture while the night’s second game brings together Uitvlugt and Young Achievers.
Uitvlugt team have been one of the mainstays of football on the ‘West Side’. Uitvlugt is also the home team of Golden Jaguars stalwart Tryon Bobb.
But Bobb, who plays his football internationally, is not here to help his team in their first major tournament for the sport in the West Demerara district as they face Young Achievers, known to be some upsetters.
While Stewartville have been in the mix of being one the top clubs within their jurisdiction, they have been out of the fray lately because of competition like Seawall United.
A steady fixture in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League, Seawall United will be the favourites to win tonight’s contest.
The tournament fetches a winners’ purse of $500 000, third-placers $300 000 while third- and fourth-placers will go home with $150 000 and $75 000 respectively.
