SECURITY guard Kenneth Khanai, who faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact of murder, was granted bail at the Berbice High Court following a petition to Justice Brassington Reynolds yesterday. Khanai is also charged with being in possession of firearm and ammunition without the relevant licences.
He was ordered to post $150,000 surety and lodge his Guyana Passport, if he has one, at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and report to Reliance Police Station, Canje, also in Berbice, every Monday, until the determination of the cases.
In his supporting affidavit, he said, on October 9, 2012, he was at his Gangaram Settlement, East Canje home, when Police came and took him to Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, then to Best Coffee Land, New Forest, also at East Canje, where they found a .38 special revolver, 23 live 16-gauge cartridges and seven live 12-gauge cartridges.
Following further investigations, on December 9, 2012, he was charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder.
However, according to his Court documents, the lead investigator, Corporal Mohammed, under oath, indicated that the defendant was merely assisting with the investigations, Khanai said.
Previously, Ramdhanie Persaud alias ‘Prak’ was charged with killing his wife who had been shot dead.
