Impressive performances from Keiron DaSilva on his Jet Ski and Luknauth Jaggernauth in his power boat as they shone at the third annual Mashramani Jet Ski and Regatta Fury which took place yesterday at the Lake Mainstay Resort, Essequibo.
Fourteen aquatic events were contested with the 40HP Boat races being the set attracting the largest cash incentives. Jaggernauth comfortable swept the three events in that category to take home a combined total of $120 000.
Clint Gonsalves was silver-coated being second best to Jaggernauth in all three races. The category sweeper, Jaggernauth, clearly won the first two races but the third was a nail-biting finish when Gonsalves decided to implement a technique that yielded immaculate results, but unfortunately, it was applied a little too late.
DaSilva on the other hand claimed three victories and a second place finish, racing in both the 1100cc-and-over and 1000cc-and-under categories. His total earnings amounted to $80 000 which was the second highest of the event.
He opened his account on a winning note as he defeated the experienced Neil Gonsalves in the 1100cc-and-over category but Gonsalves would exact his revenge the next time they met. DaSilva went on to win both the 1000cc-and-under races in relaxed fashion.
There were also two Male and Female 15HP Power boat races which saw Lennox Bhoralli winning both the Male races and Nalini Bhoralli winning both the Female races.
Finally the action wrapped up with two entertaining 80-metre Canoe races that were laughingly supported.
Earlier in the day, the opening ceremony kicked things off but it was quite a late start. Religious leaders from the Christian, Hindu and Muslim beliefs said prayers for the event.
After that brief remarks were made by Director of LMR Wilfred Jagnarine, Winston Miller – the Regatta Coordinator, Captain of the Mainstay village known as Whyaka, Joel Fredericks, and Parmanand Persaud – the Region No.2 Chairman.
These are all personalities that see this event as a catalyst for larger ideas that they very much would like to make a reality, given the right amount of support. According to Persaud, the achievements thus far have been satisfactory for the people of Essequibo as they use this event to showcase what they have and are capable of.
The primary objective, as mentioned by Persaud, was to attract people from all parts of the country to experience what joys they have and share it with them
