GUYANA and West Indies left-arm orthodox spinner Veerasammy Permaul has been called up by the Regional selectors to join the Darren Sammy-led West Indies lineup, which will face the visiting Zimbabweans in the upcoming One Day Internationals which bowl off next week in Grenada.
The Albion Cricket Club first division skipper who made his Test and ODI debut last November in Bangladesh, will be replaced by off-spinner Zaheer Mohammed, who will join the Guyanese on Sunday, during the course of their present matchup against Barbados at the Kensington Oval.
According to a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) official, Permaul will commence the second round game and Mohammed will take his place in the final 11 on the Sunday, whether Guyana are batting or bowling.
Meanwhile, with Permaul’s exit to the Windies lineup, Georgetown Cricket Club’s (GCC) Leon Johnson, who was named vice-captain for the Regional four-day squad to Permaul, will assume the captaincy position.
Recent Indian Premier League recruit Christopher Barnwell has been elevated to the captaincy position for the Super50 matches, while serving as Johnson’s deputy for the four-day tournament with the roles being reversed for the Super50.
