Saluting Guyanese Barry Sukhram for book, struggle

I WRITE to salute Mr. Barry Loknath Sukhram, one of the finest sons of Guyana,  who is settled in London, for authoring a book that focuses, among other topics, on the struggle for democracy in our homeland.

I look forward for the book.  Barry, as he is fondly known, contributed enormously to the struggle for the restoration of democracy. He is one of a few truly patriotic Guyanese abroad who has served the nation and the diaspora without looking forward for anything in return. He put in over 50 years struggling for the Guyanese nation.
Barry is one of the few Guyanese who consistently fought for the restoration of democracy in Guyana,  unyielding in his commitment and dedication to the struggle like a few of us in New York.  Unlike most Guyanese, who turned their backs on Guyana, after they emigrated, Barry, who has been in England for over 50 years, never forsake  his homeland.  Like a few of us in N.Y, even when we were students found time to battle for Guyana and fight against the PNC dictatorship.  College studies was no “humbug” to the struggle which came first before family and education – a commitment few demonstrated that included the likes of Arjune Karshan, Chuck Mohan, Baytoram Ramharack, Vassan Ramracha, Vishnu Bisram and a handful of others. Barry has remained committed to a struggle for the dignity of the Guyanese people and for this the nation must be grateful. He is a true Jaganite to his heart, incorruptible and honest and a warrior for a just cause.
Today, he runs a website informing Guyanese of events in their homeland and also contributes to other activities benefiting the Guyanese diaspora in England.  And he does not look forward for any reward.
Barry Loknath Sukhram, from Rose Hall, Corentyne has received numerous accolades, all deserving, for his dedication to the Guyanese struggle. He was honoured about two years ago in London by Guyanese and other West Indians for his work.  I hope the Guyana government will see it fit to grant this gentleman a national honour for his work in England on behalf of the Guyanese nation. He deserves the highest honours and respect from our nation.
