GFC measures intended to ensure sustainable forestry practice

THE Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) is not stopping anyone from cutting trees so as to impede their livelihood. The Commission is simply trying to put measures in place so that areas which are already deforested outside of the guideline of the specific requirements with regard to measurements could be nurtured back to a sustainable level.

If any Tom, Dick, Harry and loggers just go into the jungle and cut any amount of  trees for their convenience,  namely  camps, work ground, etc, without regard for tree-felling measurement guidelines, surely this  will contribute to deforestation and destruction of our forests. We as citizens, be it employee or employer, would benefit.  Let’s say, John wants to work a piece of land and he submits to GFC guidelines, he would be guided by law and personnel on how to go about cutting trees.
Surely, it would not be fair for John or Harry to continue to felling trees in or around an area which has been depleted by Tom, Dick or Harry. Authorities have a right to step in. So please seek a workable solution and get involved in stakeholders’ forum and consultations facilitated by the Guyana Forestry Commission.
Long after this generation is gone the coming generation and the one after would continue to depend on our forests.
