THE Guyana Defence Force (GDF) conducted a commissioning service, on Tuesday, for 10 ensigns who underwent its Standard Officers’ Course (SOC) number 45.
It was held in the auditorium at Base Camp Ayanganna, in Georgetown, where the participants were urged, by Reverend Louis Crawford of Tucville Assemblies of God Church, to live according to the principles of the Almighty and be assets to the army and human kind.
The preacher also encouraged the soldiers to be exceptional in fulfilling the desires of the GDF and the community as well.
He read scriptures to show them reasons for using their training to uplift themselves, citing the Bible story of David in his sermon.
The proceedings started after the arrival of the Chief of Staff, Commodore Gary Best and the Colour Party marched on in slow time and made the flag presentation to the Force Chaplain, who placed it on the altar.
The Officers’ Stars were borne into the hall and handed to the Force Chaplain, who placed them on the altar and the programme continued with the singing of hymns and other songs, reading of prayers and scriptures.
After the Officers’ Stars were blessed in a series of prayers and given back to the Colour Party, the latter marched out in slow time and the programme concluded.
