Linden man charged with stabbing 4-yr-old boy to death makes brief Court appearance – case adjourned to Feb 27

THERE were lots of emotions and passion when the man held in connection with the brutal murder of four-year-old Jamal Naranjan appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court, charged with stabbing the nursery school boy to death last Wednesday.

Samuels, who was without his dreadlocks after he had shaved his head, was emotionless and calm, after he was called to the docks to answer the charge. But the case was swiftly adjourned which will see him reappearing on February 27.
As the case was put down for a later date, the mother of the child Neisha Naranjan sprinted out of the court room, in tears, into the yard where family members of both the accused and the deceased confronted each other while Samuels was taken away in a jiffy by the police.
By then, quite a few residents had gone to hear the matter and according to one resident, the man was known to have ‘a temper’.
Samuels is charged with stabbing the four year old boy to death at Buck Hill, Wismar, just a few yards from the Wismar Police Station last Wednesday following the escape of the woman’s younger sister whom he had reportedly raped before the young Jamal had returned from school that afternoon.

As the sister of the boy’s mother ran out from the house, Samuels in a rage turned his attention to the boy and stabbed him, causing him to bleed profusely. He then fled the scene but was later caught.  (Joe Chapman)
