Guinness Greatest of the Street… Melanie humble Mahaica on second night

ANOTHER eight matches in the East Coast leg of the Guinness Greatest of the Street were contested on Saturday night at the Haslington Market Square where Melanie A’s performance stood out from the rest as they sank Mahaica 4 – 1.

Melanie was led by a double from Shermon David (7th, 13th), supported by his teammates Darwin Peters (3rd) and Jermaul George (6th) who each scored a goal. Mahaica’s lone goal was scored by Troy Morris in the 11th minute.
The other eighth matches were keenly contested matches with Victoria Church Yard United defeating Ann’s Grove Punters in sudden death of a penalty shootout after playing to a stalemate, and BV B prevailing on penalty kicks against Melanie B. These two teams also battled to a stalemate.
Ann’s Grove Young Warriors fell 0 – 2 to BV A as Akim Curry scored in the third minute and Delroy Deen scored in the 13th minute.
Victoria Eagles soared to a 3 – 1 win over Golden Grove Superstars; scoring for Eagles was Kirk Warren (7th), Travor Fraser (9th) and Dylan Marius (14th) while Stephon Walcott scored for the opposition in the 17th minute.
Plaisance got rid of Buxton A 2 – 1 with Carlos Matthews (12th) and Warren Gilkes (15th) each scoring once for the eventual victor and Randy Andrews scoring in the sixth minute for the Buxtonians.
In other results, Nabaclis needled Vryheid’s Lust with Mark Trotman the scorer in the 12th minute while Paradise did the same to Buxton B with Quincy Adams the scorer in the eighth minute.
The preliminary round concluded last night at the Haslington Market Square with another eight matches. The quarterfinal round is scheduled for this Wednesday at the same venue
