EVERYONE is excited about the upcoming ‘Girls Power 2013’ entertainment extravaganza, set to scorch several locations in Guyana with its intensity. And the lineup of artistes speaks positive volumes for its outcome.
First off, there is Soca temptress, Michelle ‘Big Red’ King on the slate, and, of course, vocal powerhouse, Jackie Hanover.
But wait, people! Step back a minute and give Chronicle de way as we present the legendary Charmaine Blackman, who is on a mission to ‘knock ‘em dead’ at this event.
Charmaine may have shocked fans at the GT&T Jingle and Song Competition last year, but she is pulling out all the stops this year to put on a show that will “give all Guyana moh fuh talk.”
From her riotous costumes to showstopper heels, Charmaine will take her fans to the brink of ‘entertainment insanity’. The wings will be hilarious, the lipstick startling shades, not to mention two-inch lashes and nails to rival those of the late Pamela Maynard.
If you think this classy diva is finished there, you’ve got another think coming. Charmaine will put on a show that will match the versatility of any international song diva. She is rehearsing feverishly, and let me tell you, folks, Chronicle was there and saw it for themselves. This woman will sizzle with ‘entertainment’ at this event, which, by the way, is purposed to promote “Empowerment against Domestic Violence”.
Girls Power 2013 is promoted by the overseas-based One Destiny Promotions agency; is the first of its kind; and will feature an all-female cast.
Besides ‘Big Red’, Jackie Hanover and Charmaine, Girls Power 2013 will also feature spectacular performances by Guyana’s Yonnette Hooper & the Star 6 Band; Sheldon ‘Shelly G’ Garraway; and two-time Chutney Queen, Fiona Singh.
At each segment of this show, Guyanese iconic comedians, Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones and Henry Rodney will perform a comedy piece to showcase domestic violence.
As stated by promoters, “Girls Power Explosion 2013 provides an opportunity to bring to light an issue that affects our community/society in a staggering way. Domestic violence affects people, regardless of ethnicity, sexual and gender identity, religious affiliation, age, etc.”
Girls Power 2013 will be taken to various locations across Guyana, and will commence at the Bartica Regatta Pavilion on Saturday before heading to Berbice next Monday for a venue yet to be named.
Lindeners will get their taste of Girls Power 2013 on February 20, when it is scheduled to be staged at the Mackenzie Sports Complex, while shows for the East Coast of Demerara and Georgetown will be launched at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground on February 22.
