The release said that, according to acting Tourism Minister Irfaan Ali, the Ministry’s plans for this year’s Mashramani celebrations surround meeting the needs of all visitors, particularly those from neighbouring countries like Brazil, and exposing them to Guyana’s diverse culture.
The release quoted Minister Ali as saying that the event will be utilised as the vehicle through which the Tourism Ministry can attract an average of 400 tourists, and the Ministry is working with the State of Roraima and tourism agencies within that State to promote and sell packages.
In this regard, the Ministry is currently finalising arrangements to host a Brazilian Samba band to rouse revellers with live stage performances on the eve of Mashramani, the release said.
Sneak peak
The release added that ‘Masharama’ will also include performances by Soca Monarch finalists, and offer a sneak peak at the costumes of popular bands.
“The Ministry will then lead a parade of 100 strong to compete in the Medium Category Float Competition, which will be followed by the Brazilian Samba Group with an anticipated 1,000 party followers accompanying them to the National Park,” the release disclosed.
It said the bands and followers will then assemble at the National Exhibition Centre for the Ministry of Tourism ‘After Mash Wash Down’.
Minister Ali explained in the release that ‘Masharama’ was conceptualised as part of the plan to attract more persons for the upcoming Mashramani celebrations, and to magnify the significance of the occasion.
Mashramani 2013 will be celebrated under the theme ‘Reflecting Creativity, Embracing Diversity’, and as is customary, it is expected to attract thousands of visitors from around the world.
