BCB/ Carib Beer First Division T/20 … : Foo’s 71 propels ACC into the play-offs

A BRILLIANT knock of 71 from Guyana T/20 batsman Jonathan Foo led Albion Community Centre (ACC) to victory over Port Mourant Karibee Rice in their final Zone C preliminary match of the 2012 Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Carib Beer first division T/20 cricket competition. The win also enabled ACC to gain enough points to assure them ending up as one of the top two teams of that zone, thus earning a place in the Play-off of the competition.
In the match, which was played at Port Mourant ground, ACC, choosing to take first strike after winning the toss, lost former Guyana Under-19 batsman Kandasammy Surujnarine with only 7 runs on the board.
However Foo joined Veerapen Permaul and together they put on 53 before Permaul went for 26, while his older brother and national T20 skipper Veerasammy Permaul came in and together with Foo, added another 75 in 8.5 overs after which Foo departed for 71 (4×4, 4×6).
With Permaul going on to make 29 and former West Indies cricketer Devendra Bishoo an unbeaten 16, Albion closed at 156 for 5 in their 20 overs against the bowling of former West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Zamal Khan who took 2 for 22 with his off spin.
When Port Mourant responded they were given a fine start of 43 runs in 6 overs from former Guyana Under-19 captain Harrinarine Chattergoon and Joshua Ramsammy.
After that however the Albion spinners tightened the screws and made runs hard to come by and Port Mourant crawled to 120 for 5 in their 20 overs with Chattergoon top-scoring with 33, Zamal Khan 30 and Boughnarine Persaud 20 even as Veerapen Permaul took 2 for 24 for ACC.
