Statement admitted at son’s trial for father’s murder

THE trial of Nandalall Ruplall, for the murder of his father, Sonalall Ruplall began with a voir dire (trial within a trial) on Thursday. At issue in the smaller trial was a caution statement that was, eventually, admitted in evidence by Justice Roxanne George.
The judge had conducted the proceedings in the absence of the jury after Defence Counsel Peter Hugh objected to the tendering of the attestation, on the ground that it offended the Judges’ Rules.
Conducting the case for the Prosecution are State Counsel Rhondel Weever and Natasha Backer.
The accused is alleged to have committed the offence between June 30 and July 4, 2008.
The case continues today. (George Barclay)
