LABA elections set for today … Andrew McBean lone candidate for president

CLUBS in Linden today will be put to task to either keep the present members of the executives around for another two years or put fresh minds to work when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) holds its Annual General Meeting and Elections at the Mackenzie Sports Club lounge from 18:00hrs.

At present, while some amount of basketball has been played, primarily at the senior level, some clubs are disgruntled at how the game is being administered and the biasness shown to clubs.
Captain Eon Murray and Rawle Toney had both resigned from their post of president and vice-president respectively, sighting various reasons for their departure.
While no one else has stepped forward to contest the different posts, the Amelia’s Ward Jets had endorsed their club president Andrew McBean to contest the presidency.
The National Communications Network Branch Manager had previously stated that he feels “more can be done for the sport … I know there is a challenge of available resources and I know that there are people willing to invest in the sport. What I’m hoping to do is to provide a more consistent stage for the players to showcase their talent since Linden is a rich basketball community, along with developing the youths”.
The clubs expected to be present are: Amelia’s Ward Jets, Kashif and Shanghai Kings, Victory Valley Royals, Half Mile Bulls, Retrieve Raiders, Block 22 Flames and Wismar Pistons.
Apart from the election of office-bearers, the agenda will include a discussion of the minutes from the previous meeting, reports from the president, secretary and treasurer and amendments to the Constitution.
