JR Burgers opens three-storeyed Kitty complex

THE three-storeyed building which houses the new JR Burgers was officially opened yesterday in Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown, next door to the JR Burgers fast food restaurant.

altOwner and operator of the business, Mr. Jad Rahaman, told the media on the occasion, that the JR concept was developed after operations at his former business place, ‘Palm Court Restaurant and Bar’ was shut down.
He said there were pieces of equipment and he was unsure what to use them for; and, one day, a brilliant idea came to mind and, with the help of his eldest son and a close friend, he came up with the initiative to use a van and transform it into a mobile kitchen and started selling fries and burgers on the seawall.
This was an immediate success and, as time went by, the van was replaced and, for the past nine years, JR has been selling the fresh and delicious burgers and other fast foods to the public, he said.
Rahaman added that what makes JR burgers so special is that they are made with all Guyanese ingredients and the business is not a franchise holder from an overseas company.

He also disclosed that he intends to take the JR Burgers concept countrywide so all of Guyana could savour it.
According to him, every year JR has shown growth and development ranging from 7 to 12 percent and, with this new venture, it should show a lot more.
Rahaman said, at present, JR Burgers has approximately 25 staffers and will continue to have an increase in employment.
All staffers are trained and certified by a Trinidadian company, which is being paid for by the establishment to ensure that staffers are equipped with proper knowledge in handling customers and a certificate is usually provided at the end of these training sessions, he disclosed.
He said this service is designed  to provide a state-of-the- art food and beverage outlet for tourists as well as Guyanese.
He acknowledged the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) which provided the loan for this new complex to come alta reality, noting that this structure was a 15-month project at an approximate cost of US$500M.
The three-storeyed edifice houses the home of JR Burgers on the ground floor and on the third floor is the Altitude Hangout Bar, an open roof garden that gives one a view of a part of Georgetown.
The second floor will house a ‘Dine in’ restaurant, which is expected to be completed by Easter.
Rahaman disclosed that, in a matter of two weeks, there will also be a drive-through service to better serve customers on the go.
The new JR Burger complex offers burgers (fish, chicken, beef and vegetarian), fried chicken and even lunch specials (soups, fried rice etc.) available on a daily basis.
The line of beverages ranges from a variety of soft drinks, milk shakes and healthy fruit smoothies and the environment is conducive for children as well as adults, being very sanitary with very courteous staff.
