THE Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) will be hosting its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and the only remaining executive from the previous body, Kester Gomes, is not seeking re-election. Gomes was voted in as vice-president under the David Carto-led GABA, which came into being in February of 2011 but to date remains the only active executive member since everyone else had ‘abandoned ship’ citing various reasons for their resignation.
The former Junior national point guard had asked the clubs at a recent meeting, to submit their nominations for the post of president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and assistant treasurer/secretary and speaking to Chronicle Sport, yesterday, Gomes informed that Pacesetters and Bounty Colts had done so, having similar slates.
“Colts and Pacesetters sent through their list, but it’s basically the same,” Gomes said, while adding “Michael Singh was nominated as president, Kevin Amsterdam vice-president, Darcell Harris treasurer, Andrew Hercules secretary and Adrian Hooper assistant secretary/treasurer”.
Gomes also pointed out that Hercules has also received nominations from the Patriots Basketball Club from Plaisance, endorsing him for the position of vice-president.
“I don’t know what they’ll do because Hercules also got some nomination from his club as well so I think come Saturday, all this will be put in place at the elections,” Gomes sighted.
GABA has 14 clubs as affiliates and the lone ranger Gomes is hoping that all turn out at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall tomorrow at 15:00hrs.
