GWI hosts training programme to boost non-revenue water management – Linden community to be used for pilot study

GUYANA Water Inc. (GWI) yesterday hosted a Non-Revenue Water Workshop, at the company’s corporate complex, Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, to enhance the knowledge of GWI employees in effectively managing water losses.

The workshop, facilitated by Consultant Jean Belle of EGIS Eau, specifically targeted GWI’s operations in Linden, since the community will benefit from enhanced water service via the Linden Water Supply Rehabilitation Programme.
The workshop featured an address by Chief Executive Shaik Baksh, who urged GWI employees to embrace the heightened non-revenue water programme.  “While Linden will be used as a pilot for the programme, the initiative will be executed in all of GWI’s branches country-wide,” stated the Chief Executive.

He further stated that non-revenue water is  a key indicator of the efficiency of the utility and the core of management’s programmes and initiatives.   Reducing both commercial and physical losses will result in more revenue and more water available for consumption, while reducing the need to invest in new well stations and lowering operating costs.
Mr. Baksh further stated that the utility is seeking to educate customers countrywide about the importance of reporting leaks to avoid contamination of their water supply and decreased levels of service.
“Education and community outreach will be the focus of our public awareness strategic plan in 2013,” stated Baksh “We have commenced our public education programme in Linden with school workshops; these will be executed countrywide, as well as our community connect programme which will involve customers interacting with senior GWI operatives with the aim of resolving customer service and operational queries.”
