Ravens and Jets ready for showdown tonight

TWO of Guyana’s premier basketball clubs will tonight go head-to-head in a friendly encounter that’s not so friendly, as Ravens of Georgetown tackle the Amelia’s Ward Jets of Linden at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Court.

The event is dubbed the ‘Jets Basketball Classic’ and though the two teams meet in a friendly encounter, Ravens have already stated their intention that they are coming to win and to do so emphatically.
Ravens will be heading to Linden fresh after winning the Phillip ‘One-Foot’ George Memorial and the Albert Bentick Championship while their opponents Jets just finished as runners-up in the Banks DIH Malta Supreme Championship.
Darcell Harris, Ravens coach, said that “it’s been a while since Ravens have gone to Linden and this I must say is something our club is open to … travelling and playing different clubs”.
Harris said that not every time it should be about money, referring to the fact that clubs from different geographical locations only and often face other clubs when money is involved.
“We (Ravens) going to Linden will benefit everyone and I think the fans especially will gain more because they will be able to see a different type of basketball being played.
Ravens are one of our top clubs or I should say the best club in the country and I think they are a good enough opponent. This means a lot to us and we are taking this very seriously, so to Jets, bring your game”.
Jets are not known for being too boastful, in fact, their team captain Kevin Joseph said that his side “welcome a new opponent and with that, we are looking forward to playing Ravens. I think we have only met once and they won, so tomorrow’s (tonight) game is important. Ravens are honestly the best club in Guyana and for us to play them means a lot to our club”.
The two teams are banking on mammoth support from the Linden community, being fully aware that Linden people always show appreciation for good basketball.
