EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Patrick Smith (no address given) appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on two charges of larceny from the person.

Particulars of the offences said, on December 17, 2012, at West Ruimveldt, he stole, from Michelle Henry, a gold chain valued at $80,000 and, on December 2, 2012, at East Ruimveldt, also in Georgetown, from Constance Judy, two gold chains worth $120,000.
Smith pleaded not guilty to stealing from Henry but admitted to the theft from Judy.
Asked by the magistrate if he had anything to say in his defence after pleading guilty, he declined. He rode up to Judy on a bicycle and snatched the two jewels off the woman’s neck.
Smith was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment as the magistrate remarked that his behaviour in court throughout the proceedings was unremorseful.
He will be making another court appearance on January 31.
