TWENTY lucky entrants have recently been shortlisted for the 2013 Adult Calypso Competition, according to reports coming out of the Mash Secretariat Friday.

tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Mandela Avenue in the city.
Canterbury noted that this year’s lineup is chockfull of very vibrant and talented performers, thus signalling that a very riveting competition is in store.
He said that of the 20 persons shortlisted, 10 would be eliminated at the semi-finals, while the remaining 10 will go forward to the finals.
This year’s winner in the Adult Calypso Competition will take home a whopping $600,000, with the second and third-place winners receiving $400,000 and $250,000 respectively.
There is also a $100,000 cash prize for the Best Newcomer.
Meanwhile, staging of the semi-final leg of the Adult Calypso Competition is slated for the Mackenzie Sports Complex in Linden, while the finals will be held at the Banks DIH Thirst Park Lawns in Georgetown.
The ‘semi-final showcase’ promises lots of action, and will see Calypsonian Precious Pearl executing ‘Dem flogging up Calypso’, and Boss Stephens ‘Youths of Today’.
Queen Davey will perform ‘Hammie said don’t blame me’, while seasoned campaigner, Winfield James, will render ‘Money’.
The stage will be set at this segment for Young Fyah to bring his piece, ‘Local Foreigners’, and for Mighty Voter to showcase his song, ‘Let God be the Judge’.
Lord Canary is expected to belt out ‘Now that I am Alive’, and this will be followed by Mighty Roots with ‘Opposition President’. Lady D from the Signal Camp will perform ‘Wrong place, wrong Time’.
This year, Calypsonian, Bright Colours is bringing to the forum his selection, ‘We get a problem O’, and Sniper will sing ‘Hey Bishop’. Queen Makeeba will perform ‘Ism Man’, while Calypso Stella will do ‘The system is Wrong’. Sweet Kendingo will perform ‘Let the country move On’, making way for Princess Patricia, who will be singing ‘De Police’.
AJ, as she prefers to be called, will be showcasing her entry, ‘Save Calypso’; followed by De Professor with ‘God nah Sleep’. Lindener Diana Chapman will unleash ‘Yuh Bauxite Dust’, while Yolanda Nedd will treat the audience to a rendition of ‘What is the Plan’. Clyde Thierens will perform ‘De animal Farm’.
The reigning Soca Monarch, Young Bill Rogers, will also be defending his title at the finals.
Contestants can net a maximum of twenty points for their lyrics, ten points for song topic, and another ten for construction of the song. There is also a maximum of twenty points allotted for melody, ten for originality, and ten for musical form.
Contestants can also score twenty points for the rendition of the song, ten points for diction, and a final ten for intonation.
