Gov’t finds Guyana Goldfields feasibility study promising –Sees it as a positive development

MINISTER of Natural Resources and the Environment, Mr Robert Persaud has viewed as welcome news Guyana Goldfields Inc. announcement that its Aurora property has the capacity to produce in excess of three million ounces of gold.

The ministry said in a release issued yesterday, “The Minister views this recent development as a positive move towards ensuring that Guyana remains a significant gold producer into the future, using the latest, safest and green technology. This mine, according to the plan, will singularly produce as much gold as the entire country produces currently.”
The release goes on to say: “The Minister regretted the fact that the feasibility study and mining plan saw a shift from the startup of mining operations from 2014 to the first quarter of 2015, and urged that the company look at ways in which it can seek to revert to its original schedule to commence operation in 2014.”
During recent discussions with company executives, the release says, the minister said he hoped the feasibility study and mining plan for the operation will be met on schedule, or even before, with great emphasis on safety, world-rated standard and environmentally-friendly practices.
President Donald Ramotar and Minister Persaud were yesterday briefed by Mr. Patrick Sheridan, CEO of Guyana Goldfields Inc., on the scope of their proposed operation, which because it would be a large-scale venture, is anticipated to aid in the creation of jobs and afford all Guyanese other economic benefits.
