Revenue collection by Essequibo Coast NDCs far below targets

THE collection of rates and taxes by the five Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) on the Essequibo Coast is far below the projected targets for 2012, according to a report presented to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) at its first 2013 statutory meeting on Tuesday. The compilation said the amount collected up to the end of November 2012 was much less than the projected targets.
Chairman of the Local Government Sub-Committee of the RDC, Mr. Farouk Khan, said the Pomona/Good Hope NDC had garnered only $3.4 M of a targeted $8.3M while Riverstown/Annandale took in $3.3M from the expected $5.9M.
The Aberdeen/Zorg-en-Vlugt NDC raised $937,650 of its $2.6M target while Evergreen/Paradise managed $1.2M, or only 16 percent of $7.2M and Charity $1.6M instead of $8.7 M.
The Charity/Amazon Market operated by the Charity/Urasara NDC raised $11.6M of $18.2M budgeted and the Annandale/Riverstown NDC collected $1.7M out of a projected target of $3.2M.
