Police looking for man sending children to beg

THE Police are looking for a man who has, allegedly, been sending children around the streets of Georgetown to beg for money. Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Ms. Jennifer Webster confirmed, Monday, that her ministry had been made aware of the nefarious activities of the individual, mainly along Lamaha Street.
The Ministry has, since, apprehended one of the children involved and the police, who have been notified, are  working along but were unable to lay hands on the suspect, so far.
Director of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CC&PA), Ms. Ann Greene said the man can be charged under the Child Protection Act.
“If you put a child to beg on the streets, it is an offence against the child, because you are making that child vulnerable to abuse,”she explained.
Greene said such an offender could be imprisoned for at least two years if convicted, depending on whether the charge is laid summarily or indictably.
She added:“We intend to charge him as soon as they catch him.”
