THE Guyana Power & Light Incorporated (GPL) has issued a press release disclosing that its Demerara Interconnected System (DIS) experienced a shutdown at approximately 23:44 hrs last Monday, due to a tripping of the 69KV transmission line linking Garden of Eden and Sophia. Consequently, communities in Georgetown and on the eastern and western coasts and banks of Demerara were without electricity for between 30 and 35 minutes.
Emergency remedial measures were employed which allowed personnel to respond quickly and effectively to the situation, resulting in the first feeder being repowered at 00:13 hr and the last at 00:40 hr yesterday.
The release conveys GPL’s apologies to its customers for any inconvenience the situation might have caused. (Nadine Sanchara)
