$25B in investments in local tourism sector

The Ministry of Tourism industry and Commerce had  several major new investments approved during the latter part of 2012 which will definitely enhance existing services to meet certain international expectations.

In 2013, all being equal, one can expect to start seeing noteworthy additions to the booming tourism sector in Guyana as Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce  (ag) Irfaan Ali announced that collectively the 14 new investment interests, from local businesses has a total value of more than $25B. These new investments will create employment for more than 800 persons.
In identifying some of the investments he said, “In Mazaruni …we have a group that will be building a resort, the White Water Resort will be redone, and we are looking at a 35 to 40- room facility. We also have …entertainment plaza on Sheriff Street, this again will have luxury lounge and hotel room facilities, and we also have the entertainment centre on Sandy Babb Street, Duke Lodge and the Pegasus for expansion.” 
The Ministry and the Guyana Tourism Authority have been aggressively promoting Guyana as an eco, adventure and nature tourism destination and last year the number of tourist arrivals increased over the previous year.
In line with these new investments and the efforts to attract more tourists to Guyana, the Minister expressed the hope that the private sector also invests in keeping the city clean.  He said that through the urban development plan he hopes that the private sector will adopt sections of the city.
