RESIDENTS of Linden and the police in the area are expressing their appreciation for the bravery of a young man who fended off two bandits in the community.
In a police press release issued yesterday, the police said that at approximately 01.30 hours yesterday morning, two men armed with a gun and cutlass respectively invaded the home of a Wismar Linden family.
The release added that the bandits pushed open the door to the family home, which is shared by the mother of an 18-year old young man and the woman’s male partner the woman’s younger child. Her daughter was also home at the time of the invasion.
The police said that the 18-year old confronted the men by first wrestling the cutlass bandit and successfully over powering him.
The teenager then proceeded to wrestle the gun touting bandit and was again successful taking away his firearm.
The police added in their release that a round was discharged during the scuffle between the teenager and the bandit. The bullet allegedly pierced the roof of the home. The firearm was described as a 12-gauge shotgun.
It was also reported that the teenager received minor injuries during the scuffle.
However by the time the occupants of the home could have gotten themselves together the bandits fled the premises. The Guyana Chronicle was told this is the first time the occupants had such an experience.
The firearm and the cutlass were handed over to the police who are carrying out their investigations.
Yesterday efforts to contact the family were futile.
