TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Bibi Kamaal Muhammad, of Harbans Spoor Dam, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice, delivered her first child on New Year’s Day, just under five months after she lost her husband tragically.
The birth was a bitter sweet occasion, as she wished Jermaine Jason Anthony, called Kevin, was at her side to see their beautiful daughter.
“He had wanted a son but I always wanted a daughter,” the mother mused, adding: “She looks just like him.”
The delivery was done by Nurse Marlyn Tinnie at 09:25 hrs, and the infant weighed two kilogrammes 700 grammes.
Muhammad recounted that her husband, to whom she was married for one year, drowned last August 26 while assisting her fisherman father.
“Kevin was at the three-door sluice in the vicinity of the Berbice River Bridge when he slipped into the waterway,” she remembered.
Nevertheless, she is grateful for having a safe delivery, although an ultrasound had revealed that the baby was due on January 12.
Meanwhile, being the first to deliver New Year’s Day, Muhammad was gifted a hamper, compliments of the New Amsterdam Branch of Republic Bank.
In addition, bank officials told the new mother that an account will be opened in the child’s name shortly.
