Burglary defendant on $100,000 bail

TWENTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Colwin Cort, of Lot 40 Mount Sinai, West Canje, was ordered to post $100,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, yesterday, at the New Amsterdam Court, also in Berbice, on an indictable charge of break and enter.

The chainsaw operator is alleged to have committed the offence at the dwelling house of Leon Pydanna in Budhan Scheme,West Canje.
Police Sergeant Godfrey Playter said the defendant, a repeat offender, went into the complainant’s home on December 29 last and stole an amplifier, a mixer, a portable DVD player, an equalizer and eight pants, valued a total of $233,000.
The prosecutor said Pydanna had secured his home and gone to work but received a telephone call informing him of the breakage and the defendant’s involvement.
A report was made at Central Police Station, New Amsterdam and a detective arrested the suspect with the booty in his possession.
The case will be called, again, on February 10.
