TWO policemen appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday on a joint charge of receiving stolen articles.
Constables Andrew Albert and Andre Pollydore (no addresses given) pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on December 28, they received one ‘Apple’ laptop, valued $350,000, one computer bag worth $5,000 and one hard drive, priced at $6,000, property of Troxley Edwards, knowing all to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.
Police Corporal Vinetta Pindar, prosecuting, had no objection to bail but requested it be substantial and that the defendants lodge their passports.
The two cops were each ordered to post $200,000 surety and surrender their passports.
The case will be called, again, on January 21.
The defendants were placed under close arrest last Friday after they were caught, in a sting operation, allegedly, returning the items to the owner in exchange for cash.
The things were amongst the booty taken when robbers held up a taxi driver and three passengers, at Haslington, East Coast Demerara.
