AN ADVENTURE Village, Essequibo Coast family was without a home for Christmas and all their plans for a grand celebration were turned into sorrow and sadness as their breadwinner committed suicide. Reports said the 45-year-old man, Naresh Singh, who was a labourer at the Suddie Hospital drank a quantity of poison two days before Christmas after a heated argument with his wife over missing money from his salary.
The woman, who was looking forward to buying foodstuff, decorations and gifts for her children, was not pleased when she discovered that part of her husband’s pay was missing and started to quarrel with him.
It is reported that Singh had given his mother and daughter a part of the cash and also bought Christmas gifts for them but that did not go down well with his wife and, following the argument, the woman took her children and left the house.
The man then, in anger, set his small wooden house on fire, mixed a potion which he drank and died shortly after.
His body was cremated on Boxing Day on the La Union foreshore, as his wife, children, mother and other relatives openly wept for him.
