Four victims of Pomeroon boat accident laid to rest : -Charity, Pomeroon engulfed in sadness, grief

THE atmosphere around Charity and the Pomeroon was one of sadness, grief and anger as the funeral service for four of the six victims of last Tuesday’s horrific accident got underway. Even the heavens seems to be mourning as the clouds became dark and overcast as the caskets bearing the bodies of four of the victims were offloaded from a government Canter truck in the Charity Housing Scheme while two were offloaded onto the farmers wharf and transported to Kabakaburi in the upper Pomeroon River where a another funeral service was held.

At the Charity Housing Scheme hundreds flocked into Beverly’s and her husband yard and onto the street to listen to the funeral service and get a glimpse of the deceased victims.
Former Member of Parliament and stalwart of the People”s Progressive Party (PPP) Mr. Isahack Basir said the tragedy in the Pomeroon River has affected the entire country and many persons from overseas have called him to find out what has gone wrong in the Pomeroon.
Mr Basir also expressed sympathy to relatives of the deceased on behalf of the Government of Guyana. He said we are with you and assured the families that Essequibo was not happy with what had happened in the Pomeroon.
Family members who read eulogy for the deceased described them as all very loving, caring and good people. Vincent, the miner was described as a person who was closely attached to his mother and had lots of friends.
The deceased boat captain Harry was a strong believer in Christ who took part in preaching God’s word in the interior. He was described as a very good person to relatives and was known as the Bank because he always had to give when some one was in need. The brother and sister Amrita and Raj were said to be very good, Raj was good at helping his father with the chain saw to cut lumber while Amrita loved to look after her younger siblings. She was the third of seven children, Raj was the eldest child.
The funeral service for the four relatives was conducted according to the Christian faith. The four were buried at the La Belle Alliance cemetery.
 Also at the funeral service were Region 2 Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud, Vice- Chairman Mr. Vishnu Samaroo, MP Mr. Cornel Damon and several members of the PPP.
