Fire at Golden Grove averted

A fire which appears to be the work of arsonists early yesterday morning threatened to destroy a two bedroom residential building at Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara. The owner of the property is a senior citizen whose name is given as Ms. Goodridge. The woman and two adult daughters who occupy the home were at the time sleeping.
However, one of the women claimed that she was awakened by the choking smell of something burning. She quickly jumped out of bed and alerted the two others. As they rushed outside they saw a beam of the house which had just started to burn.
The two women quickly formed a bucket brigade and were able to put the fire out quickly with the help of water from the nearby trench. (Charming Benfield)
