NATIONAL middle order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan struck a half-century, as the National CT20 team recorded another victory over the Rest XI in another practice match, this time under the lights at the Guyana National Stadium last Wednesday night.
Batting first, the National CT20 team, who are presently undergoing preparations to compete in next year’s West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Caribbean T20 tournament, scored 143 for 4 from their 20 overs, with Sarwan leading the way with 53 (3×4, 1×6).
He received support from Derwin Christian who made 45 with as many boundaries as Sarwan, as the pair added 62 for the second wicket, after Christian added 51 for the first wicket with Leon Johnson, who struck four fours and one six in his 25.
Left-arm orthodox spinner Raj Nannan continued to impress the selectors for next year’s WICB Regional four-day tournament, by picking up 2 for 17 for the Rest XI, who in response reached 115 for 5 when their overs expired.
They were led by Rajiv Ivan’s 30 (3×4), Rajendra Chandrika 25 (2×4) and Assad Fudadin’s unbeaten 20, as national CT20 skipper and West Indies left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul took 2 for 20 and Christopher Branwell, Ronsford Beaton and Narsingh Deonarine took a wicket each for the National CT20 team, who were scheduled to take on a Berbice XI at the same venue last night.
