WITH the view of having their inaugural Chico Sweets-sponsored, Under-13 Inter-school Championship being tagged as the best, in comparison to their senior tournament, the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation will be distributing a bicycle each to the Most Valuable Players (MVPs), who will be chosen from the eight participating schools. At a simple presentation ceremony that was held at their Church and Light Streets business location, Yure Ryvas and Riuzane Cruz of Victoria Fashions handed over the eight bicycles to Director of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation Greg ‘Kashif’ Muhammad.
“This is a splendid gift and a good start for the tournament. We welcome the idea of Victoria Fashions being on board with us for the third successive year and even though it is not with the senior tournament as they have done for the past two years, we appreciate them, joining forces for the Inter-schools tournament, for which we say thanks,” stated Muhammad.
Each of the teams participating in the tournament will receive a full playing kit and prizes such as trophies, memorabilia, computers and school texts from which both individual players and schools on the whole will benefit.
Added to that, the top four finishers in the tournament will also be rewarded, while accolades for Fair Play, Best Goalkeeper, Midfield and Defence player and the player who scores the most goals are up for grabs.
Teams representing Company Road, Uitvlugt, West Ruimveldt, Grove, Tucville, Soesdyke, BV Graham and St Gabriel’s primary schools will be vying for supremacy in the championship which kicks off on Saturday December 22 and concludes on January 1, with all matches being played at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, for which admission will be free.
Meanwhile, Muhammad said preparations by the schools have been on stream to date, with their representatives set to receive their playing kit from the K&S Organisation at 16:00hrs this afternoon.
Added to that, the senior teams who will be battling in the 23rd edition of the K&S tournament have upped their preparation, undergoing intense training with the aim of carting off the G$4M top prize which is up for grabs in this year’s tournament which gets under way with a double-header at the GFC ground this Sunday.
Muhammad said the presentation of one motor car to the tournament’s MVP by Edward B. Beharry, also serves as a motivator among the players, at the same time increasing their urge to compete for their respective teams in the tournament.
The first game in this year’s tournament will kick off at 17:00hrs between Linden’s Amelia’s Ward and Millballers of Bartica, followed by the opening ceremony and March Past of the 16 competing teams at 19:00hrs. The second fixture kicks off at 20:00hrs between Pele and Buxton Stars.
